Classes for owners and dogs teach fundamentals of how dogs learn and communicate. You will learn to use effective and humane techniques to teach your dog the behaviors you want, while enhancing a great relationship. Classes use training aids and student handbooks for learning, planning, and teaching. Price includes workbook and clicker.  

Private lessons* are available as well.



CLASSES OFFERED  

Good Manners Classes

Puppy Manners Joan helps you set goals, and prepares you to start reinforcing the habits you want your dog to have - for life. The first session is just for owners, and is for getting acquainted and talking about your pup. Sessions 2 through 7 are with your puppy.  Sit, down, stay, come when called, house-training, appropriate biting and chewing, crate training and loose leash walking  are some of the things you and your puppy will learn in these fun and effective one-hour classes. For puppies up to 5 months old The first session is just for people and is 90 minutes long. $235 for 7 sessions.

 Good Manners. Not your usual manners class! Joan tailors the 7 one-hour sessions (the first just for owners, and 90 minutes long ) to the specific needs of each owner and dog so that every student can succeed at sit, down, come when called, walking on a loose leash, stay, and more.  Establish a baseline of good behaviors early or build on what your dog has learned. For dogs older than 5 months.  First-time or seasoned canine students of any age (over 5 months) welcome!  $235 for 7 sessions.

SPECIALTY CLASSES back to t op

Feisty Fido Is your dog fine off-leash, but unable to be on-leash around other dogs without barking, snapping, or ignoring you? You’re not alone. If you’ve been embarrassed, avoided taking your dog for a walk, or hesitant to join a class because of your dog’s on-leash behavior, Feisty Fido Class is for you both. Join will teach you how to communicate successfully, manage effectively, and train for the behaviors you want. The first session is without dogs and is 90 minutes long.  The following 4 sessions are each one hour in length. $210 for 5 sessions.

Pooch Tutor Time You and your dog will learn new skills or refine established ones in a small-group setting. Joan focuses on training techniques which, once learned, can be used to teach additional skills. Whether it’s learning to sit quietly when the doorbell rings, greet people politely, or exit the car nicely, you will learn to teach it.  How about a trick or two? Joan Mayer loves to teach kids and adults to train their dog to wave goodbye, roll over, play dead, and just about whatever you think of! When you and your dog are learning any new skill, practice makes perfect. People and dogs love “Pooch Tutor Time” for its variety, for the individual attention from Joan, and for how much you both will learn. Ongoing. $30 per session.



Custom Group Classes
For groups of individuals wanting their own class together. Great for friends wanting to do something fun with their dogs, or for those with similar interests and goals.A minimum of four students/dogs will be required to form a class. SOCIALS AND WORKSHOPS back to top


Doggy Play Groups and Socials  Dogs need socialization and exercise for mental and physical health. If your dog longs to chase, play, or just hang out with other dogs, the Inquisitive Canine’s beautiful and functional dog studio is the place to do it. Joan is there to explain doggy behaviors, monitor play, and help you enjoy the show as you relax on the sidelines. For one hour of fun, the leashes come off and the dogs can be together in a safe, clean, stimulating environment designed just for dogs.  It’s great to take a tired out and happy dog home after a Puppy Play Group, Adolescent Social, or Adult Dog-Play.

Puppy Play Group. Your puppy’s littermates were the perfect playmates. Puppies love and need to play together, and early and frequent play with other puppies and dogs helps your puppy grow up right.  Watch your puppy burn energy, be silly, and just have fun. Joan will explain behaviors and help you better understand your dog! Puppy Socials are for puppies 10 weeks to 5 months old, with small dogs (to 25 pounds) to 10 months old also welcome. Older dogs must be spayed or neutered for off leash adventures. Sessions are one hour, $15.00 per pooch. See calendar for dates and times.

Adolescent Socials Many teenage dogs love to run, chase, and just play together. What better place to do it than at the studio? The leashes come off and the dogs can be dogs together in a safe and clean environment. Socialization + physical activity = happy dogs! It’s great to take your tired-out dog home after a social.  Adolescent Socials are for dogs 5 month to 10 months old, 26 pounds or more. Dogs must be spayed or neutered for off leash adventures. Sessions are one hour, $15.00 per pooch. See calendar for dates and times.

 

Adult Doggy Socials Dogs do best when they have opportunities to burn energy, get off-leash exercise, and be around other dogs. Relax and watch your adult dog play and run with other dogs in a clean, safe, and supervised settting. Dogs must be spayed or neutered for off leash adventures. Sessions are one hour, $15.00 per pooch. Contact us to get you and your dog signed up for some fun times!

Workshops

Workshops are fun, fast-paced and one hour long. You and your dog will learn and then reinforce a specific behavior, such as sitting quietly when the doorbell rings, loose-leash walking, or coming when called -- in and out of the house!

Your New Puppy.  Puppies are the cutest things ever, and it’s best to start early teaching them good habits!  Enroll your puppy and begin to build a foundation together for lifelong good behavior. The right techniques, learned early, will prevent so many problems later. We work on communicating with your pup for success. Topics include house training, chewing, biting, crate training, enrichment, and socialization. One-session workshop, one hour. Please see calendar for dates, times, and pricing.

Loose-Leash Walking – enjoy your dog and your walk.

Getting Your Dog to Come When Called – no dog or owner should be without this canine skill.

Greeting People Nicely – You do, and so should your dog.

Doorbell Manners – Don’t dread the doorbell because of how your dog might react.

Returning the Tennis Ball – It’s much more fun when your dog does this.

“Leave It!” Teach your dog to stop what they’re doing, and pay attention to you.
